This post is a submission for Cold’s Gold Blogging Carnival for the month of September (2012). The topic of this months carnival is “The Remote Auction House – Tips, Tricks, Strategies, Love or Hate It?”
Just a short post this morning as I realized that I hadn’t made a submission yet for Cold’s Carnival (Have I mentioned yet I need to get better at this time management stuff? I think I have).
I don’t use the Remote Auction House, like at all. It’s not that I don’t particularly like it, it’s just that it isn’t for me. While many players swear on it I’ve never been able to get into it and along with apathy I just never picked it up, for a few reasons.
Wasn’t Worth the Price
Up until very recently there was a fee associated with the mobile/remote services, including remote auction house. I couldn’t justify paying this extra subscription, especially combined with the other reasons not to bother with it (as follows).
No Supported Devices
I hate apple products, I really do. That’s a subject for a different day though, what’s relevant here is that I don’t have apple products, I’m a Blackberry guy. For over a year now I’ve had a Blackberry Smartphone, and this summer I rounded it off with a Blackberry Playbook.
See the problem here? No? Blizzard doesn’t like Blackberry apparently, there’s still no support for Blackberry devices for their mobile services. I mean with the tablet you can use the web version, but it really isn’t the same thing. Recently I posted in the forums asking for Blackberry support since RIM offers a service to port from an Android app to a Blackberry app. They said they forwarded on the information, but honestly I’m not optimistic.
One of the biggest draws for many is that they can use the Auction House anywhere they want. Here’s the thing though, I don’t honestly know a situation where I’ll be out of the house and I’d want to check auctions. To make it worse I don’t have a data plan so unless I’m in WiFi range I couldn’t use it anyways. I can’t see where I’d want to or be able to use it, especially with the WiFi limitation. The only time I could see myself using it would be when I’m out of town visiting, like family or something. When I’m at school I (should) be focusing on the class at hand, and the occasional break I get I’m usually in the games room or working on projects or studying but I don’t see where I’d ever want to take the time to check auctions. I don’t work right now but when I do it’s usually not an office environment (hasn’t been to date) so that would’ve left me to only being able to use it in the lunch room, again not something I’d been keen on (I like to eat).
So that’s pretty much it, between costs, lack of availability, lack of opportunity, and how much time I spend within arms reach of my computer I just currently don’t see any reason to use it.
